Happy New Year!
2008 has been a year of tremendous growth and transformation for Save A Dog. Late last year we
found a house and a barn, set back in the woods, located on a main road. The house was cute,
all wood paneled, and very homey looking while the barn needed a lot of work. It was crumbling
with extreme termite damage, unbeknownst to us. But it looked like something we could fix up
for our homeless dogs, many of whom are used to living in primitive conditions.
The grounds were overgrown with years of neglect and poison ivy covered everything. Our volunteers
came out on weekends and worked on the grounds, but the work on the barn was overwhelming and not
something any of us had the talent for. So we approached a local builder, Ken Vona, who had
adopted his dog from us.
He immediately sprung into action, calling out every favor he had. He amassed over 70
contractors and subcontractors who donated hours of labor, equipment, and lumber. Ken kept his
people there for four months straight and transformed the barn into a beautiful kennel with 13
runs, 3 play yards, and a puppy room. The cost to us, were it not for Ken’s help, would have
been unreachable.
The “barn” as we call it, still has the look of a New England barn, but the inside is
transformed into a palace for our dogs. They have piped in music, temperature-controlled
heat and a/c, and a shiny epoxy-finished floor.
After getting the proper permits from the town, we moved in on November 5th. We filled the
place that night with 14 dogs who had been living outside. Since then we have rescued many
dogs and we’re still going strong, able to double our adoptions. With the economy forcing
many people from their homes, this could not have come at a better time.
With our benefit auction held on November 1st, we were able to pay off half of the small
construction loan. We plan to finish paying off the loan and to raise the capital to purchase
the property, as is our agreement with the owner. We rely entirely on private donations to
continue this work of securing a permanent place in which to save homeless dogs.
Won’t you please open your heart today and help those who have no voice, but who are as loyal
and faithful to mankind as any creature that ever walked the earth -- the dogs.

Dogs Who Need Sponsors
The following dogs will incur medical expenses that will far exceed their adoption fees. Some have
dental needs, delicate spay operations for older female dogs, and mammary tumors that need to be
removed. Please help us to give these dogs the proper care before they are put up for adoption.
Thanks in advance!
LaceyLacey is an adorable multicolored, medium-sized dog who is give or take a year or two. She was rescued on 11/1 with her two week old pups. The pups are weaned now and so it's her turn. She is recently spayed. She is in a foster home and doing great. Her foster mom is crazy about her. She says she is a perfect dog, very sweet and gentle. Lacey loves to play with her 4 legged foster sister. She is calm in the house and entertains herself well with a toy. Lacey is housebroken and is good in her crate at night. She likes to chase balls, brings them back and make dog friends in a play group she goes to regularly! She is a delightful dog who will be great in a family! We can all imgine Lacey in her home lounging on her dog bed being a great addition to a home. She is a gentle, loving and kind sole who has the most magnificent eyes! Her pictures do not so her justice.

Save A Dog, Inc. is an all breed dog rescue and adoption agency. We take in dogs from high-volume
shelters and thus save them from being put to sleep.
We also take in dogs whose owners no longer want or who have been abandoned.
We incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit in 1999 and we were the first dog rescue group in the Boston
Metrowest area to bring in dogs from states that have an over-population problem. We use foster
homes so that we can better evaluate the dog's personalities. We temperament test the dogs and
we try to make the best match for applicant and dog. We developed a health and temperament protocol
and quarantined our dogs long before it was it was state-mandated.
What sets us apart from all the dog rescue groups who have recently sprung up? We are not about
rescuing puppies to make a quick buck. We will not turn down special needs dogs and we'll spend
whatever it costs to save dogs who are truly in need. If we are going to bring in dogs from out of
state, we choose a mix of adult dogs slated for euthanasia as well as adolescent dogs who were
abandoned when they outgrew their cuteness. We love working with people who want to "save a dog" as
opposed to people who just want a cute puppy. We believe in educating our adoption community and
will send you home with extensive instructions on how to care for your new dog or pup as well as
recommendations for health and training. We have you sign an adoption contract that ensures the
dog will never again end up in a shelter. We spay and neuter the dogs prior to placement. Our dogs
are up to date on vaccinations, but we don't over-vaccinate as we know that this can lead to immune
deficiency problems and we will educate you about that. We use holistic care and homeopathy as our
primary medical protocol. We use positive reinforcement training for our dogs and we require that you
obedience train your dog using positive methods. We work with a select few out-of-state shelters who
we trust to give us healthy dogs that are friendly and adoptable. We have a good relationship with
these shelters and we help them out with donations for their special needs and hardship cases.
If you would like to meet our rescued dogs, please fill out an
application
or come to one of our local Meet and Greet events, listed on the
Events page. Also, if you fill out an
application, you can make a private appointment to see the dogs. Filling out an application is the
best way to express your interest as the dogs require our undivided attention during the day,
hence we tend to read emails after the dogs go to bed.

Save A Dog has been chosen by Especially for Pets in Sudbury to partner in their program
called Especially for Pets in the Community: The Adoption Initiative.
Especially for Pets has teamed up with local non-profits and rescue organizations
to promote pets available for adoption as well as to raise awareness about the work
being done in the rescue community. It is their ultimate goal to educate their customers
about what the specific organizations do, to collect donations for their use and, ultimately
to help the organizations to place homeless animals in permanent, loving homes.
