Sparkie, 3 years old Male Mini Australian Shepherd
Sparkie

Apply To Adopt

Sparkie is a 3 year old, purebred tricolored red, Mini Australian Shepherd. He is great with dogs and horses and somewhat shy with people he doesn't know -- he doesn't do crowds so is not a dog to take to the fireworks or to a parade. His owner regularly goes to horse shows and he's too nervous in crowds so he must stay home alone a lot. Owner is seeking a better life for him with people who can give him more attention and to better socialize him. He is fully housetrained, owner works and he's great in the house, not destructive at all. He lived with a 10 year old boy and a grandmother and grandpa and was very attached to the grandpa. He used to play with the ponies at the barn and would get them to chase him through the fence. This dog has a lot of personality, a lot of smarts, and a lot to offer to the right owner. We're looking for previous dog experience, someone who has rescued before or someone with dog training experience. Ideally also, a quiet household, possibly with another dog for companionship. Horses would be a plus as he's in his element with horses. He will not be at the 5/17 meet and greet, but will be at the 5/24 meet and greet. We met Sparkie and can confirm he is a gorgeous dog with a mild personality, very sweet.

Apply To Adopt

Jazzy will not be at the Meet n Greet Jazzy is a 3 year old recently spayed female Yorkie who needs a terrier-experienced home. She was relinquished because she was too active for the owner and would bark for attention. Someone with the time and training experience would be perfect. She's a 14 lb, large for a yorkie, but not fat at all. She burns it off with all her running around. She was raised as an only dog so we're not sure how she would be with other dogs. She is not a dog for a senior or for young kids. There's a good possibility she will be at our Meet and Greet on Saturday, 5/17/08 at Especially for Pets in Sudbury from 11-1 PM.

Elliott, 11 months Male Shih Tzu  Mix
Elliott
Elliott

Apply To Adopt

PLEASE Note: ELLIOTT WILL NOT BE AT THE MEET & GREET ON 5/17. Elliott is an adorable Shih Tzu who is very sweet and friendly. He is good with other dogs, prefers small dogs. Before his rescue he sat in a shelter for a month with a broken leg. So when he came to us, we had him all checked at our vet and at Vescone and everyone agreed that the leg has healed without surgery. He's a happy and personable guy, but the ideal home would be an experienced small dog person who knows the small dog personality and train him in a positive manner.

He rides well in the car, loves to go places with you and his tail tends to wag non stop. Because he is still a puppy, we are looking for someone who is a stay at home or work from home. He's little, so no young children, but 12 and up would be perfect. He came to us with horrible matting in his very fluffy coat, and had to be almost shaved down (as shown in the picture). Shih tzus require grooming every 6-8 weeks and brushing often to keep their coat from matting, which pulls on the skin and is painful for them. This breed can live to be 17-18 yrs old, so we want his adopter to make sure they want to make the commitment to keep Elliott throughout his long life when they make the commitment to adopt.

We're not sure if he's been exposed to cats yet. We're collecting donations for Elliott to help cover his orthopedic and vet bills for his many visits during his recuperation. He is ready for adoption immediately.

Buddy
Buddy

Apply To Adopt

Buddy is a one-year old Pug/Terrier mix with high energy, but just a GREAT dog all around. He's very personably, happy and loves to play and go for walks and see the world! He would make a great walking/running partner. He can go for a mile run and then come back home and play for another 45 mins til he crashes. He's still very puppy like and loves to play with his toys, ball, and chew on chews. He spends his down time napping and chewing or snuggling in his foster's lap.

Buddy was relinquished because his 80 year owner could not keep up with his high energy, and this is SO typical of the terrier breed. He will make someone a wonderful companion, but they must understand Buddy's need for excercise (several walks/runs a day) or he wont be a happycompanion and neither will you.

Buddy is neutered and up to date w/shots. He weighs 15 lbs. Are you looking for a little guy like Buddy to be YOUR "Buddy"? If so, please fill out an application on our website.

Dolly, 1 year Female Labrador Retriever  Mix
Dolly
Dolly Dolly

Apply To Adopt

Dolly is a beautiful female lab mix with a big heart. She loves people and shows her affection as often as she can get a lick in. Although she loves attention, she is a calm and secure dog and can spend time alone at home. She is very well behaved, likes to learn new tricks, be outdoors, has lots of energy and loves to run. She has sensitive skin and a mild itch, alleviated with bathing. She would do well in a home that would allow ample outdoor space for releasing her energy as well as either another dog or children to play with. She loves going for walks, riding in the car, and just being with you. She knows many commands such as sit, give paw, lay down, stay, come, heel. She is the perfect dog and deserves the perfect home. Also, she is housebroken and crate trained.

Dolly was previously placed by us. Her owner was in a very serious car crash 2 months ago. His family took Dolly in hoping it would be a temporary commitment, but there have been complications, and they are afraid Dolly can not return to her "real home". They have other commitments/animals and cannot keep Dolly permanently, as much as they love her. They hope that she'll find another wonderful home where she'll be appreciated and loved and doted on, as she should be!

Silvia
Silvia   Silvia

Apply To Adopt

Update! Silvia has completed her heartworm treatment and is doing well. She is available for adoption from her foster home in New York, near Ancram.

Silvia’s journey to Save a Dog began in January in Leland, Mississippi which is located in the heart of the Delta. A Good Samaritan saw her in the road where she was almost hit by several cars; she was brought to the city shelter, an unheated facility for which the city provides neither food, water dishes, nor medical care. Fortunately for Silvia, a volunteer from the local rescue, AARF which provides food and supplies for the city shelter, took pity on her and brought Silvia to her already overcrowded home. Two days later Silvia gave birth to three healthy puppies; shortly thereafter, Silvia was diagnosed as being heartworm positive. With the help of AARF and many other volunteers along the way, Silvia and her pups made the 24 hour trip to New York where Silvia is now being treated for Stage 2 heartworm. She will receive her second treatment on May 2 and then will be on restricted activity for another month; her prognosis is excellent as she is approximately two years old. She is a sweet dog, loving, and playful and deserves a forever home of her own. Silvia loves people and would also love to chase cats (so no cats!). She's affectionate, playful, and very eager to please. She loves to cuddle, sleeps on the bed and does not make a sound all night. Silvia weighs about 20 pounds. Because her expenses will exceed the adoption donation, we are asking for sponsors to help with her medical bills.

Katie is a 3 year 5 month Golden-chow mix. When you call her by her nickname Kissey Katie, KKKKatie, she gets all excited, and will try to wrap her body around your legs and go in between to get extra pats. She is with her owner so does not attend the "meet and greet" events. Private appointments will be made once we receive your application. She was not raised with kids and is nervous around small children, so no small children, please. She will come close to you when little kids are around. If you tell her its okay and the kids are gentle she will let them pet her for a minute. She has always been this way since day 1. Katie is very protective of the car and house when no one is around she will bark and look crazy. Katie is head strong so she would be better with someone who has had dogs before. She is a little pushy with other dogs ( like a typical female retriever) at first after told to play nice does fine. Katie loves to kiss everyone people and dogs alike. She isNOT good with cats. Loves the car. In the house she likes to sit by a window or the front door and watch outside.
