Available On: 11/2/20

Apply To Adopt

Blue is a recent return and has proven he's a one-person dog like many Heelers. He's not a problem dog or a project dog. In many ways he's the perfect dog and can read your every move and anticipate what you're about to do. He's perfect for a one-person household. He bonded with the wife but didn't accept the husband. He was great with the 7 year old son, but he plays rough so he is best with a single adult. He needs access to a fenced in yard or he won't get enough exercise. Blue is a young Heeler mix (1.5 years) who loves to ride in the car. He is extremely loyal to his person. He is friendly with other dogs and ignores wildlife (not a huge prey drive). He weighs 45 lbs and is neutered. Due to Covid we do not have drop-in or walk-in hours, but everything is done by appointment after we receive your application, pictures, and references. Please be ready to adopt as we are not able to hold dogs while you're away. Apply at http://www.saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp

Available On: 11/16/20

Apply To Adopt

JILLY ANN was left behind when a renter moved. Alone and pregnant she was rescued by our sisters at LAMA rescue in Louisiana. She came up with her pups to find a wonderful home. She weighs 30 lbs. She likes her treats and to lay out in the sun. She loves her babies and is a good Mama. She's just a baby herself as she's only a year old. She is part wire-haired terrier and looks either hound or Spaniel. She loves car rides. She is very energetic so will need an active adopter who can give her the time. She still has milk so will need to be in foster prior to her spay and availability. Requirements: Fenced in yard as she won't do her business on leash and she prefers to be an only dog right now. Due to Covid we do not have drop-in or walk-in hours, but everything is done by appointment after we receive your application, pictures, and references. Please be ready to adopt as we are not able to hold pups while you're away. We require the entire household to meet the pup and we have to do it all in one visit in order to minimize the foot traffic at our shelter. Available late November at the earliest. We probably have enough applications on file to find her a good home.

These girls can be adopted separately but currently sleep through the night in a crate together and play all day safely with minimal supervision. Available November 24. If you have holiday plans, do not apply until you are ready to adopt. Email inquiries take up staff time and consume resources we do not have. Best to wait and apply when you are ready.

This ten pound, 7 to 8 year old chihuahua was spotted in the road in Richland County SC. He was on his own and at imminent risk of being hit by a car. When a kind woman stopped he scurried off to the side of the road and just lay there waiting for whatever fate had in store for him. This little guy was covered in dirt and fleas. She took him home to keep him safe until rescue was secured for the duration of the stray hold. He has a permanently crumpled, deformed ear filled with scar tissue from old hematomas due to severe neglect of ear infections or possible ear mites. Whether this little 10 pound nugget was abandoned or simply a stray we do not know. What we do know is he had no microchip, was not reported as missing and was posted on every single lost on found site/page for the surrounding area. It has been weeks past the legal stray hold and no one claimed him. The Dog4u family welcomed him! A wonderful vet tech at one of the partner clinics fostered him while he was waiting to go north. Moonshine aka Professor Moonshine is heartworm negative by some miracle. He is great with dogs and kids, house broken and loves to hang out at the front office of the clinic helping make sure to keep the front desk staff entertained. He is a lovely little guy who does not have a mean bone in his body. Apply online for this little guy.

She’s very good with other small dogs, and is very playful both independently and in a group of friendly puppies. She knows sit, come, let’s go potty, go poop, and she will also come to you when you make kissy sounds. She sleeps in her crate and knows "go to bed" as the command. She needs supervision during the day as she has puppy behaviors and can get into some mischief when alone. Available 11/24/20.

Penelope is a 1 year old Lab mix who was a Louisiana stray. She is frightened at the shelter and will need some time. Another dog brings her out of her shell quickly. Her rescuers write: She is sweet, friendly and funny! She is excited to do anything but really loves to play with her dog friends and go for rides! She loves swimming and cheese but not bathes or having her ears cleaned! She is full of energy and would be a great tuning/hiking partner. She loves to play ball even though we’re still figuring out how it works! She loves every one and just wants someone to love her! Available after her spay, probably Thanksgiving weekend. We are looking for an applicant with a completely fenced in yard for Penelope.

Available On: 11/16/20

Apply To Adopt

Aliya is a shy, sweet 10 month old female Lab mix who was picked up as a stray in St. Thomas. With no prospects for adoption she was flown all the way to the states and driven up north. She would prefer another dog to play with and help her overcome her shyness. A fenced in yard will keep her safe. A male dog would be a nice match for her. She's happy when she sees the puppies (she loves puppies). She's spayed and up to date on immunizations (over-vaccinated in our opinion). She's very slender so just needs to gain some weight. She's around 50 lbs now and appears to be full grown. Available 11/16/20.

Adoption in Progress

James is a 7 to 8 months old neutered male puppy who is great with other dogs. Hos mother was a pure bred beagle. He is very playful, not over bearing, and not a dominant boy. Just typical puppy playful with other dogs. He loves toys. He has a neutral personality, happy go lucky tail is always wagging. He is very gentle with people and wakes you up with a big sloppy kiss on your forehead. He is a bit timid once you put a leash on him, this is likely because he was chained until his rescue. He is doing well with housebreaking and sleeps in bed with his people (we always advise a crate in a new home at first). This sweet boy is a wonderful cuddle bug who passed his health cert and is ready for his forever home. Due to Covid we do not have visiting hours but everything is done by an application process. Available 11/9/20.
