We are keeping her picture up in hopes she will return and also so that the applicants for her pups can see what mom looks like. This is Annie. She is the mom to Prissy, Casper and Thumper. She is a sweet dog who showed up as a stray who was pregnant. Some kind dog-lovers took her in and let her have her pups. She was a good mama to them and is sweet and friendly to everyone she meets. He is sweet as can be and very calm for a puppy. Foster mom writes: He comes to me after he eats to be petted and sits very still for as long as I will pet him. He is playful....loves to play with my 25# male eskie as well as a 50# female shepherd. He comes into my closed in porch through a doggie door and doesn't destroy anything or have accidents! He is a typical puppy though......he will claim things for his own and take them outside to play with. He loves to take his blanket outside into the yard to nap on! If I could just teach him to bring it back in when it rains! He also likes to carry his bowl around with him. Plays with toys, Nylabones, rope toys and sticks.....sticks are his favorite!!! He is good in the car. Learning to walk on a leash. Not truly housebroken, but it's a start that he never has accidents when inside on the porch. He was tied to a tree and had no dog house. He is not at all aggressive with dogs or people...... just a little afraid. At first he would not eat out of a bowl, but would eat if hand fed! He was being fed table scraps and knew nothing about dog food. He would not go in a dog house for the first few days, but will now go in his house. Will arrive in mid-June. He is very friendly with people and other dogs. He is a big fluff ball and just full of himself. He loves to play but is old enough to calm down inside and be a great companion for someone. He is just waiting for an application so that we can bring him up north to be adopted. Foster mom says: He was friendly with me when I went to get him and has been great with all dogs I have placed in with him. He is very playful. Loves to run and play with any dog......even drove Marty nuts trying to play with him. He loves attention from me and is just a gentle, energetic, fun-loving dog. He learn quickly. Ollie, 9 months Male Retriever  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Scheduled Arrival: May 21 2008 Apply To Adopt Coming Soon: Available 5/23: Ollie is the nine month old puppy of Annabell. He was very shy when he came in but is doing much better and coming out of his shell. He is a handsome boy. We will accept applications, but please be patient as we have to process the dogs inhouse first. Update on Ollie from his foster mom: Ollie now knows how to shake hands. After he finishes eating he always wants to be petted and any time I ask him to shake he gives me his right paw. He is absolutely beautiful and the sweetest natured dog. He loves to be petted. He is shy about loud voices. Someone yelled at him a lot. If I raise my voice just to call another dog, he cowers....not as much as he once did, but still cowers. Lab Puppies, 3 months Female Labrador Retriever Click on picture to enlarge Apply To Adopt COMING SOON - Available 5/23 These are the three female Lab Puppies. They were born on Valentines day. Their mother was found near a business in an open field with coyotes after her. She was only a couple of weeks away from having the pups when the man found her. He turned her over to a rescue and they fostered her and the pups until the pups were 5 wks old. The mom is a beautiful choc. lab. These pups are beautiful....gentle, playful, good natured, love to be picked up and held. They love to play with balls and squeaky toys as well as each other. Luvie is the smallest (approx 17lbs) and a little shy at first, but likes attention. She will stay to herself some and just relax and look around. Raven is the largest (approx 20-25#). She is happy and playful and can hold her own with her brothers! Tinker Bell is around 20# and is happy and playful and curious. She will leave her food every time and come for attention. Grace, 4 years Female Australian Shepherd  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Scheduled Arrival: Feb-March 2008 Apply To Adopt Update on Grace: She has been staying at the vet's while she is being treated for heart worm. She is eating and gaining wt. Dr. Everett's husband said Grace is spoiled! Sometimes she will only eat her food off a spoon! He sits and hand feeds her when she is not feeling okay and refuses to eat any other way. Right now she is eating three times/day without being hand fed. We're hoping she can come up once she completes her last treatment and confinement. We still need to raise more funds for Grace as her treatment has been complicated due to a tick-borne illness, which lengthened her confinement at the vet. Donations are much appreciated. Here is Grace's story. She was picked up by two women who were just finishing transporting dogs. She was wandering along interstate 40, crossing back and forth. They stopped; hoping to check her tags and take her home. But the collar was old and very tight and it was clear she didn't have a home. They contacted Save A Dog; we said we'd take her; and they named her Grace because they'd made a wrong turn and shouldn't have even been there to find her… but for the grace of God. A rescue friend of Save A Dog took her in, found out she was heart worm positive and suffering from a rare tick-borne illnes. So she is being built up so she can be treated for heart worm. Then she can come up and find her forever home. Pablo, 3 years Male Lab / Husky  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Scheduled Arrival: March 2008 Apply To Adopt Update: Pablo didn't make it on the transport. He was too upset by the vet trip so he spiked a fever, which went down upon arrival home. Nevertheless, he was not able to get a health certificate. We'll try to figure out a way to relay him up here in a non-stressful way in the near future. Pablo was a kill-shelter rescue 3 years ago at 8 weeks old. He was brought to a sanctuary where he has been ever since. The teen volunteers and Save A Dog director, Shirley, discovered him this past summer while we were on a mission trip in WV and we fell in love. He is about 60 lbs. and is neutered and vaccinated. He is crate-trained and gets along well with other dogs. He was raised with cats as a puppy and is good with them also. He is a mix with possibly some Husky or other northern breed in his background because of his "slanted" eyes. He is very playful and likes to "fetch", but doesn't always bring the object back..... but with a little training he'd be a great backyard playmate! He loves to sit for a good petting.
