Hi Shirley and Dave!
Well, we officially adopted ' McKinley Sierra' (formerly known as 'Cody')
two weeks ago from Save a Dog, and he has turned out to be a wonderful,
loving, gentle snuggly Siberian Huskey. (Though, yes, he is a typical huskey
with typical traits, but we're huskey people through and through.)
Naming our new dog: Since my husband will be climbing Mount McKinley in
April, he decided to name him after the mountain. And "Sierra" was the name
Shirley's son came up with- thus, "McKinley Sierra"- a new name and new life
ahead, filled with lots of dog-sledding, mountains, snow, hiking, skijoring,
doggie treats and tons of love.
Our Kodiak (our other SH) just loves him and they are already best friends.
At first, we were nervous to take an older dog into our home, but we wanted
to do something wonderful in honor of our beloved dog 'Inuit' that had
recently died. We could not think of a better way to honor her, than giving
another dog a second chance at life.
Shirley and Dave (wonderful souls) at Save a Dog made it an easy choice...we
could take 'McKinley' home and be foster parents and see how he does in our
home. How could we refuse! We fell in love with him as soon as he jumped
into our Jeep - he was front and center - ready to live again.
McKinley Sierra is about 3 years old we guess. At the "kill shelter" where
he was slated to be euthanized, he was howling and gnawing at the cage. I
guess they thought he was a 'problem' dog and not worthy. I would be too if
they were about to kill me. And guess what! I was a 'problem kid' and made a
lot of noise too, and I turned out just fine. In our world, every creature
is "worthy". He just wanted to live, that's all.
We took a chance on him....and everything turned out just perfect. And
somewhere up there in doggie heaven, I know each hug I give to McKinley is
shared with our beloved Inuit, and I know she's smiling down on us today.
What a wonderful world.
Thank you Shirley and Dave for being who you are.
We'll be back to help.
Peace. Kathy, Rich, Kodiak, Little Iggy, Ms. Harley, Inuit and McKinley
