We adopted Peggy (formerly Erin) in October of 2002. We had lost our
beloved Corgi in August and felt a need to fill the hole she left in our lives. Because
a Greyhound and 2 cats live with us as well, we were looking for a dog who would get
along well with other animals, as well as people. When I saw Peggy on the Save a Dog
website, there was something about her that spoke to my heart. She was described as
being easy going and loving toward both humans and other animals. She had also been a
terrific mother to 8 puppies, who had just been weaned from her and were placed in homes.
We applied for adoption and went to visit her at her foster home with our Greyhound Jim.
She was as sweet as could be, happily following Jim and us around the yard. A few days
later, we had a home inspection and passed... Peggy would be ours!
Peggy has been a wonderful addition to our home from day one. She quickly befriended
Jim and our older female cat; our younger male cat hissed at her for a couple of days,
but finally warmed up... now the two are best of friends, playing and wrestling like
two fiesty kids! We took her to a canine good citizen class, which she passed with
flying colors (she was the teachers pet!)... it turns out that Peggy is smart as a
whip and will do anything for a treat and praise! Peggy is also a real people lover...
she wants to visit everyone who passes her by and give them a kiss. Moreover, everyone
who meets her is utterly charmed by her. So, it seemed only right to find a way to
spread her charm and share it with others! To that end, we recently joined a wonderful
pet therapy group called Caring Canines. As a registered therapy dog, Peggy goes once
a week or more with a group of dogs and owners to rest homes and long term care
facilities to cheer up the residents. With her big ears, silly mustache, and
charming personality, Peggy is a big hit! After she has done her "job", she also
loves to go hiking with Jim at a nearby conservation park, where there are lots of
dogs, kids, and other people to visit and romp with.
We want to thank you and let you know how grateful we are to have this lovely little
dog in our lives. We love and enjoy her very much, and look foward to a long, wonderful
life together!
